Carton is the most common type of packaging in the packaging and printing of paper products. The materials used are corrugated paper, cardboard, gray bottom plate, white card and special art paper, etc., and some use cardboard or multi-layer light embossed wood board and special paper. There are also many products suitable for carton packaging, such as common medicines, food, cosmetics, tobacco, home appliances, hardware, glassware, ceramics, electronic products, etc.

In terms of structural design, the carton should be changed according to the packaging requirements of different products. For example, in the same pharmaceutical packaging, the requirements for the packaging structure of tablets and bottled potions are quite different. Bottled potions require high-strength extrusion-resistant cardboard combined with a firm structure to form a protective layer. Fixing the bottle device, the size of the outer packaging has a lot to do with the specifications of the bottle. Some packaging cartons are thrown away after one use, such as household tissue boxes, which do not need to be extremely firm, but need to use paper products that meet the requirements of food hygiene packaging to make boxes, and they are also very economical in terms of cost.

Tobacco boxes are representative in terms of materials and craftsmanship. Rigid cigarette packs use high-grade white cards and have a fixed structure and size. In terms of printing technology, many manufacturers choose more reliable anti-counterfeiting printing and cold foil technology. Therefore, the printing materials and printing process with bright and bright colors and difficult anti-copying technology are more sought after by tobacco dealers. There are also cartons that use more complex structures and multiple materials, such as various gift packaging, high-end tea packaging, and even the once-popular Mid-Autumn Festival cake packaging boxes. Some are completely packaged for packaging, which does not meet the practical function of packaging described below.

In terms of the material used in the carton, cardboard is the main force. Generally, paper with a basis weight of more than 200gsm or a thickness of more than 0.3mm is called cardboard. The raw material of cardboard is basically the same as that of paper. Due to its high strength and easy folding, it has become the main production paper for packaging cartons. There are many types of cardboard, and the thickness is generally between 0.3~1.1mm.

Corrugated cardboard:

It is mainly composed of two parallel flat sheets of paper as outer and inner paper, with corrugated corrugated core paper processed by corrugating rollers in the middle, and each paper sheet is bonded with corrugated paper coated with adhesive on the corrugated peaks. Corrugated board is mainly used to make outer packaging boxes to protect commodities in circulation, and there are also finer corrugated paper that can be used as the inner village of commodity cardboard packaging to reinforce and protect commodities. There are many types of corrugated paper, including single-sided, double-sided, double-layer and multi-layer.

White cardboard:

It is made of chemical pulp and high-grade pulp, including ordinary white cardboard liner white cardboard, kraft liner white cardboard, etc. There is also a white cardboard made of chemical pulp, also known as high-grade whiteboard.

Yellow cardboard:

The low-grade cardboard made from the pulp produced by the lime method with straw as the main raw material is mainly used as the box core that is pasted in the carton to play a fixed role.

Kraft cardboard:

Made from kraft pulp. The one with kraft pulp on one side is called single-sided kraft board, and the one with kraft paper on both sides is called double-sided kraft board. The main function of corrugated cardboard surface paper is called kraft box board, and its strength is much higher than that of ordinary surface paper board. In addition, it can also be combined with water-resistant resin to make water-resistant kraft cardboard, which is mostly used in beverage collection boxes.

Composite processed cardboard:

Refers to the cardboard made of composite aluminum foil, polyethylene, greaseproof paper, wax and other materials. It makes up for the shortcomings of ordinary cardboard, and has many new functions such as oil-proof, waterproof, and fresh-keeping.
